Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino revealed that Tether announced part of its investment/venture portfolio today. Overall, Tether has invested in over 120 companies, and this number is expected to grow significantly in the coming months and years. Invested companies include Juventus, Bitdeer, Crystal Intelligence, Rumble, Shiga Digital, and others.

These investments come entirely from Tether's own profits (USD 13.7 billion in 2024) and do not involve USDT (or other stablecoin) reserve assets, falling under Tether's investment department. Tether focuses on key areas such as payment infrastructure, renewable energy, Bitcoin, agriculture, artificial intelligence, and tokenization.

Crypto asset management company CoinShares obtains MiCA license across EU

According to Coindesk, crypto asset management company CoinShares has received a MiCA license from the French Financial Markets Authority (AMF), becoming the first European asset management company that can provide crypto portfolio management services across the EU.

This license, combined with its existing MiFID and AIFM qualifications, makes it the only major European crypto asset management institution with three major compliance licenses. CoinShares stated that this will help expand its business in 27 EU countries and promote the transition of traditional asset management to crypto products.

HKMA Chief Executive: Further cooling of stablecoins still needed

According to Shanghai Securities News, HKMA Chief Executive discussed stablecoins again. He stated that the market and social discussion heat and cooling intensity of stablecoins in the past month still need to be strengthened, and talked about how to implement the "Stablecoin Regulation" according to prudent and sustainable principles. He said it is necessary to prevent excessive market and public opinion hype about stablecoins, and recently some phenomena are worth noting, such as over-conceptualization.

The HKMA Chief Executive revealed that based on Hong Kong's experience, dozens of institutions have actively contacted the HKMA team, with some explicitly expressing interest in applying for stablecoin licenses, while others are in preliminary exploratory stages. However, many are still at the conceptual stage, such as proposing to improve cross-border payment efficiency, support Web3.0 development, and enhance foreign exchange market efficiency, but lack practical application scenarios and cannot provide feasible specific plans and implementation strategies, let alone have the awareness and ability to control risks. Some institutions that can provide application scenarios lack the technology to issue stablecoins and experience in managing various financial risks.

The HKMA Chief Executive suggested that there can be multiple modes of participating in stablecoins, and for such institutions, a more practical approach seems to be collaborating with other stablecoin issuers to provide application scenarios, rather than pursuing the role of issuer.
